Why should I join JCEA?

As a member of JCEA you are also a member of the Kansas NEA and the National Education Association.  You are part of an organization that is over 2.8 million members strong.

Our mission is to empower its members to promote quality public schools, strengthen the profession of teaching, and improve the well-being of members.

Collectively we work to advance KNEA’s strategic priorities:

Promote Quality Public Schools

  • Kansas public schools are physically, emotionally and psychologically safe for students and staff.

  • All Kansas public schools meet QPA standards while striving to meet KNEA Quality Public School standards.

  • The achievement gap between students of high and low socioeconomic status will be narrowed.

  • Every Kansas public school is adequately and equitably funded to achieve KNEA's Quality Public Schools standards.

Strengthen the Teaching Profession

  • All teachers new to the profession will participate in an induction program that meets KNEA standards.

  • There will be a peer assistance program in operation that meets KNEA standards in at least four school districts.

  • Every school district will have a Professional Development Council that meets the KNEA Professional Development standards.

  • The pool of teaching candidates in Kansas will reflect the racial and ethnic demographics of the state and be adequate to cover all teaching positions in Kansas public schools.

  • Teacher salaries in Kansas will be sufficient to attract and retain a highly skilled, competent and diverse teaching force.

Improve the Well Being of Members

  • Every public school employer will offer a comprehensive affordable group health insurance plan to all of its employees.

  • KPERS benefits will include an annual cost-of-living adjustment.

  • Seventy-five percent (75%) of teachers in Kansas will be covered by negotiated agreements that meet the KNEA standards for professional working conditions.

What should I do if I get an unsatisfactory evaluation?

If you receive an unsatisfactory evaluation you should contact JCEA President Julie Stuck at 762-8920 or email her: juliestuck@usd475.org.   She can provide more information and assistance to members.

What steps should I take if I’m not getting my contracted planning time?

Every teacher is entitled to planning time as provided for in the Negotiated Agreement between USD 475 Board of Education and the Junction City Education Association.  If you are not receiving what is called for in the Agreement, speak to your immediate supervisor.  It may be an oversight.

If that does not resolve the problem contact President Julie Stuckt who may be able to solve the problem by taking it to the central office.

You may be entitled to additional compensation because of your situation, so the sooner you bring the matter to the attention of your supervisor and the JCEA the better off you will be.

What kind of documentation should I keep to protect myself?

  •  A copy of the current Negotiated Agreement.

  • A copy of your current and past individual contracts

  • Copies of any evaluations you have received.

  • Copies of positive notes received by administrators, parents, other community members.

  • Copies of positive publicity (newspaper accounts of your work as a teacher)

I’m a new teacher, so I don’t want to make waves.  Is there someway the association can address my job concerns anonymously?

We can try.  Contact President Julie Stuck who can take concerns directly to the Superintendent.  Every month the JCEA Advisory Board meets with the Superintendent and various Devin Center Administrators.  The Board can bring up topics of concern shared within or across buildings.  The Board has an elementary, middle, and high school representative.  See the following page for the names of current representatives.
